"It's Good To Talk Rabbit Health" Easter Photo Contest

Many bunny lovers among us would probably have encountered times when our precious furballs just never seem satisfied with the amount of pellets and treats that we feed them. In fact, if we could understand bunny language, we'd probably hear them telling us to stuff them up with more of the yummy treats. But did you know that rabbits require a great deal of greens and roughage in their daily diet to ensure that they remain healthy?

At American Pet Diner and Briolife, a great deal of emphasis is placed on a healthy diet for our furry little friends. So much so that American Pet Diner has even developed a feeding pyramid so that clueless bunny owners (or rather slaves) have a rough idea about what is needed to ensure that our precious little bunnies stay healthy.

With Easter just around the corner, many of us who own bunnies may be tempted to pile up the treats for our bunnies (it is their day afterall. EASTER BUNNY, HELLO?). But at Lopp's Online Pet Plaza, we too want to advocate the importance of a balanced, healthy diet for bunnies so we're organising another photo contest. What are the requirements and who is the contest open to? Simple! This contest is open to everyone who owns a pet bunny! If you have a bunny and you have a camera, you're halfway there!

You Would ♥ To Buy A Bunny After The Movie?

Many bunny lovers will be buzzing with excitement to catch this new movie "Hop" which has landed on our local shore recently, myself included.

As indicated on the Golden Village website, the movie is a movie "blending state of the art animation with live action, Hop is a comedy about E.B, the teenage son of the Easter Bunny."

Bunny lovers will be excited about catching the movie because, well, we love bunnies and everything about them. Others may be inclined to catch the movie due to a multitude of other reasons; some perhaps to placate their children who would love to watch a cartoon about anything soft and fluffy, others to placate their girlfriends who would love to watch a cartoon about anything soft and fluffy.

But our point here is, watch the show but don't get impulsive. DO NOT watch the movie then rush out to the nearest pet shop because you want a fluffy, little cute bunny too. Sure, we understand the feeling of extreme exuberance in buying something on an impulse. But when you buy a bunny, you're talking about being responsible for a life. Granted that they are small and do not bug you like noisy children, but they do require a great amount of care and attention too. Most of all, they are a 10-year commitment!

And if you really want a bunny, why not do a good deed and browse through the House Rabbit Society Singapore's (HRSS) website and find out more about taking care of a bunny. When you are finally sure that is THE pet for you, adopt instead of buying. There are so many lovely bunnies there, all in need of the love and attention that you are bursting to share. There are so many abandoned bunnies out there that HRSS is up to their neck with in caring for as many of them as possible. But if no one is adopting these lovelies from HRSS, where are they going to find room to house more abandoned bunnies that they rescue? Wouldn't it be much better opening your heart to these unwanted lovelies rather than opening your wallet to buy a bunny, knowing that for every bunny sold, another bunny will soon be placed in the same slot as a replacement to be sold?

Well, we've aired our opinion about buying bunnies after the movie. But the point is, do you support our opinion on this as well?

P/S - We're sure alot of pet shops selling live bunnies will not be too happy after reading this post. But well, this post is strictly written IN OUR OPINION and we're not sorry about it. Oh, and HRSS's website is http://www.hrss.net. There you go!

Regardless of why you are here, we are sure you share a common bond with us. Simply, you love your rabbit(s)! And if you're like most pet owners, you probably think that your pet bunny is the cutest and have submitted a picture of your bunny and you for our "My Bunny & I" photo contest.

As the response for the contest was just overwhelmingly awesome, we had a really difficult time picking out the best 3 entries for the hamper worth more than SGD$60.00 each when the contest ended on 30 September 2010. In fact, we were still trying to select the winners up to the last few hours before we announced the winners on 4 October 2010.

Eventually, we selected 3 main prize winners + 1 additional special winner. The additional prize worth more than SGD$25.00 went to our youngest participant for the contest. After all, we believe in spreading the love for animals to the young because we believe that all good habits start young!

My darling Lopp, I will miss cuddling you, running my fingers through your fur, miss having you lie quietly in a corner while I am working on my computer. I will miss everything about you.

Did you lick my hand so lovingly yesterday morning because you knew that it was your time to go? Were you trying to tell me how much you love me too?

In the past 4 years, you have been my best friend. You've been with me when I was happy and at my saddest points. When I was down, you never failed to brighten my day. I will forever remember your happy binkies, your chinning, your loving licks, and all the times I held you in my arms.

No other bunny will ever replace your spot in my heart. Although our time together was short, it is a period in my life which I will never forget. When I had you near me, I always taught of how true the phrase "some bunny loves me" is. But yesterday after you left me, the first thing that came to my mind was that "no bunny loves me anymore".

I miss you Lopp. I miss you so much. I woke up today hoping that it was just a bad, bad dream. That when I wake up, you would be there to start my day with loving licks but that was not to be.

Could I have done more to make your life with me happy? Did I do enough? These thoughts will always linger.

Where are you now, Lopp? Are you at the rainbow bridge? Have you met your other furry friends Belle, Hammy, Fody and Duacai? I'd feel better knowing that you are in the company of your furry friends who have left before you.

Yesterday when Brazil played Holland, I secretly wished that Holland would win. Simply because you're a Holland Lop. Silly of me isn't it? And when they did eventually win the match, I even thought you might be happy if you knew it. I know this doesn't sound like it makes much sense, but how else do I put in words how much I miss you?

Although I may never hold you in my arms or feel your gentle affection again, I'll always carry you in my heart. The memories we've shared will never fade. I'll always love you and remember you. Forever and ever.

I know you wouldn't want me to cry anymore. So I shall try to hold back the tears. I will not say good bye to you because I know you'll be able to see me from where ever you are. So in the meantime, I'll just say, till we meet again.

I love you so much my precious Lopp.

Lopp's Blog Entry #2 - 20th May 2010

Lala is a klutz. Stamped and guaranteed. If another bunny placed a bet of 10 poos (that's our currency by the way, since that is what we have and can produce most readily) with me on Lala mixing up her examination date, I would double the bet on YES! I know this for sure because it happened today... When her examination date should be tomorrow morning!

Anyway, it was pretty much an eventless day for me today except for witnessing the muddle-headedness of Lala and a Poo-ball game between 2 groups of boarding bunnies.

4am - Lala wakes up (in shock) when she fell off the bed and consequently woke me up as well. Hate the bright lights that she turns on in order to do her last minute revision.

5.30am - Just about to step my bunny-foot into dreamland when the 4 boarding bunnies decided on a game of Poo-ball between their 2 playpens. It's Dumbledore and Harry Potter vs Feizai and Langzai, and the first team to kick their poo and land it on the mop in the far end of the living room wins!

5.35am - Kick-off followed by 20min of eventless (not to mention mindless) kicking of poo out of both playpens by the 4 bunny friends. I bet Lala is going to get a rude shock when she sees this mess later!

6am - 1st goal by Dumbledore! He looks, he aims, and he gets his poo right on target!!! He is ecstatic and does a binky, mid-hop and crashes into a side of the playpen. At this point, I see Lala looking at us in amusement.

7.40am - Lala leaves for the examination not knowing that the date is wrong. I tried to tell her that she got it wrong by thumping the life out of my bunny foot but she doesn't get it. How dense can some women be, I wonder.

10.05am - Lala calls Mr WS and tells him about her screw-up and that she has decided to go shopping instead since she is already in town. Good for me because this means I get more nap time in peace.

3pm - Lala comes home and does her S.O.P of waking me up while I am napping. As usual. Let me count... She went shopping and bought 4 bags of stuff when she should be studying on the eve of her examination and none of the stuff are for me!

For this injustice of forgetting to buy me anything while on her shopping spree, I have decided to ignore her and teach her a grand lesson by messing up my play area right now. I hope this teaches her a lesson...

Lopp's Blog Entry #1 - 19th May 2010

My name is Lopp, master of the house. I know this for a fact because Lala cleans my sleeping area more often than she changes her own bedsheets. Okay, maybe this does not demonstrate my superiority well enough. Let me put it this way, when I am down with a cold, I get to see a vet immediately (not that I like this actually) but when she gets a cold, she tries to self-medicate and sleep it all away. In fact, I think Lala spends more time talking to me than anyone else. Even her boyfriend (whom we shall name Mr WS here for confidentiality purposes).

Generally, I do enjoy the attention which she lavishes on me but she an get alittle more than enthusiastic about it sometimes. This seems to happen especially often when I am having a lazy, afternoon nap, dreaming of my endless carrot and treats supplies... Then she wakes me up. She tries to justify it saying that I tend to sleep like a corpse and that it scares her so she's just checking that I am okay. But I'm sure that this is just her sad excuse to fulfill her need for attention from yours truly.

Now, I am not trying to make Lala sound like a sad 29-year old loser without friends and a proper life. No, far from that actually. Actually, I happen to think that she looks quite good, especially her knee. To cope with the lack of a female companion, I have quite gotten used to having make do with her knee, soft-toys lying around the house and my personal s**t toy. I meant soft-toy, hello people but what were you thinking?!? I am a bunny for goodness sake!
